‘Love Notes’ is inspired by my daily journal. I hope it offers you as much comfort as it does me.
Sunday Love Note: Write.
Writing even when it’s hard. Daily pivotal moments offer us a chance to actively participate in growth. What will we choose?
From yesterday’s journal session.
It was early, still dark outside, the whole city seemed to be asleep. I don’t even think the birds were up yet.
I had been reading for about an hour and a half. Augustown by Kei Miller is an interesting story, with distinctive characters deeply rooted in Jamaican history, it’s a page-turner for me.
As I took the last sips of my coffee, I looked over at my notebook and wondered why my writing projects were taking so long to complete. As if I didn’t already know.

Writing is hard.
Journaling and brainstorming drafts are easy and fun but when it’s time to organize and edit … WORK.
I recognize the junction I am at, and it is an important one. I have been here many times before.
A pivotal moment where I am offered a choice, an opportunity, a gift.
A lot of times at this very junction, we choose the old worn comfortable path. The path that keeps us either right where we are at or the path that walks us in circles.
I currently have three writing projects I’ve started but have been putting off, often opting to read instead.
Why?
Because reading is easier. It’s funner.
Here I am, a lover of writing – not writing?!
All these ideas sitting in drafts. Such a waste of valuable resources (ideas).
This moment is pivotal. A junction where I have to decide.
Do I want to write?
Then write.
Because if I do not, the ideas and the dream will vanish.
Sunday Love Note: a deep breath
My writing sessions are like breathwork. It’s respectful, it’s sacred. It takes me off autopilot, slows down my heart rate and relaxes my whole body.
There is an anatomical science behind how deep intentional breaths take you off autopilot, engages the vagus nerve and lowers the stress hormone, blood pressure and heart rate. It relaxes the whole body and calms the mind.
I used to wake up with a mind full of overwhelming thoughts. Starting the day on autopilot rushing and stressing. We shouldn’t have to wake up from a restful sleep worried about the day before it even begins.
Three years ago today I wrote a short note to myself.
I was preparing for a road trip and had a busy day lined up.
That day I wrote a quick note and called it a “deep breath”; a quiet moment with myself to write out my plans, still my mind and slow down the day before it gets started.
My writing sessions are like breathwork.
A gift. An act of service. Quality time, pouring out and back into myself. It’s respectful, it’s sacred. It takes me off autopilot, slows down my heart rate and relaxes my whole body.
I write love notes.
What’s your deep breath?
Sunday Love Note: change changes everything
If you are making the same choices over and over out of comfort and familiarity, you may not get to experience how change changes everything.
I just walked away from a well-worn path I’ve become comfortable and familiar with.
Sunday love notes are inspired by old diary entries. I grab a notebook off my shelf, riffle to a random page and pick the next note.
I didn’t think I’d have time to write one this week because I’ve been busy moving.
But here we are, Sunday morning. Waking up for the first time in the new place. It’s dark outside and quiet in the house. Feeling a little homesick, I tread softly down the stairs to make my favorite coffee. It’s a Korean instant coffee called Maxim, supreme gold flavor. So easy to make. Two ingredients: hot water and coffee. The best coffee I’ve ever had.
I get comfortable on the big leather couch we’ve had since 2012, still in very good condition. Riffle through the April Diary I packed with me for this very moment.
Guess what page I flipped too:

Accept Change When It Arrives
Let us take this moment to appreciate harmony. 😊 Because can you believe it?!
The April version of me knew the July version would need this and took the time to write the message for me and you.
Although this move has taken me out of the cozy comfort zone I’ve been living in for the last FIVE years, I know it’s necessary because it is one step toward a vision I have for myself.
When the opportunity presented itself, I had a choice; I could either stay on the well-worn path I was already on or venture down one I had never traveled before. I call it ‘fun of the unknown’.
I learned a long time ago that life cannot change if I stay the same. Therefore, when change presents itself to me, I try to accept it as an opportunity for something different, new and fresh.
I’m happy to report every change, every chapter can be better than the last.
If you feel like you’re stuck in a cycle going nowhere, pay attention to the tiny decisions you make everyday.
If you are making the same choices over and over out of comfort and familiarity, you may not get to experience how change changes everything.
Sunday Love Note: doubt is a decision
If you doubt a thing, then you have already decided. Because doubt is a decision.
If you doubt a thing, then you have already decided.
Doubt is a decision.
Don’t doubt yourself, don’t doubt love, don’t doubt goodness.
Make up your mind.
Decide.
Be sure.
Speak it.
Move with certainty.
And watch it order itself. For you.
Because you did not doubt.
Sunday Love Note: you are not lost
Feeling lost is an illusion
Feeling lost is an illusion.
It feels very real, I know. I roamed for about 35 years myself.
But it doesn’t have to be the reality.
We have to find (know) ourselves before we’re found, not the other way around.
Even if things seem to get harder before they get better, remember this one thing: We were born and built for the life we are living and have the ability to choose the quality of our life.
Trust and know (not hope), we are exactly where we need to be.
The life that animates us, the essence of what we are, knows exactly where we’re going and the path to get there. It knows us better than we know ourselves.
You are the path.
Faith and belief in oneself needs no evidence. Use this to your advantage.
And if this is hard to believe … feeling lost could be a very real thing.
Sunday Love Note: it is ok to change who you are
You do not need permission to be someone else.
You do not have to wait until tomorrow.
You do not need permission from someone else.
Do not feel embarrassed.
Do not feel guilt or shame.
It’s never too late.
To be whoever, whatever you choose to be.
If you’re in public and find yourself walking too fast, slow down, mid stride. Who cares if it looks silly. Your world, your pace.
Pivot is permitted and highly recommended.
A writer’s voice; Searching everywhere but within
As a new blogger, sometimes I struggle with voice. Who am I as a writer?
Resisting ourselves causes tension. Acceptance brings clarity.
As a new blogger, sometimes I struggle with voice. Who am I as a writer?
I decided to take a day off from reading. I know, I know, how dare I? But when something is on my mind, it helps to get real still, quiet within my own space and just listen/feel.
Taking a day off from reading is a big deal because I read all the damn time. I hardly go out, I don’t watch tv nor do I spend a lot of time scrolling.
In my spare time, I read. And write.
By the end of the day, here’s what I discovered:
Number One: When I’m not reading, I write more. Writing is my passion and I was reminded to write more than I read. Love that for myself.
Number Two: My writer’s voice has been here the whole time. Instead of searching, all I had to do was acknowledge what was already there within me.
My favorite genres are horror & thriller, and I’ve been trying to come up with ways to write heart-pounding articles like the books I read. My writing sessions started to feel like a struggle because I was forcing something that didn’t come natural.
During my quiet time of clear mindedness and not consuming outside sources, I looked at what I’ve been writing for the past few years and recognized my own voice. It became very clear who I am as a writer.
My natural writing style is the lens I see through every day and resisting it has added tension to my sessions.
So what if they’re not sitting on the edge of their seats. They’ll move on to the next, if that’s what they’re looking for.
Those that stick around, will stick around. I’m confident in that.
Yes, I love horror and thriller. But it’s not what I write. Not now anyway.
I’m not sure what kind of writer I’ll be tomorrow, but I know exactly who I am today.
If you struggle with writer’s voice, could it be you’re resisting what comes natural? What hits the page when no-one is looking.
Who are you today? Start there.
It’s easier to evolve when we first acknowledge and accept who we are today. Swim with the current, not against it.
Resisting ourselves causes tension. Acceptance brings clarity.
Happy writing my friends.
