Reading Update: Picking my own books

I have a ton of books on my shelf that have been recommended or influenced by my friends on social media. Great books. Most of them are popular for a reason.

But the fact I’m starting to doubt myself when I choose a book, is a problem.

I was at the bookstore browsing the other day and realized sometimes I put books back on the shelf because I haven’t heard anything about them.

It’s risky choosing my own book. Sometimes there is a reason the book isn’t popular.

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about reading, is the not knowing. The mystery of the book itself.

Effective immediately, I paused all the books I was currently reading recommended by someone else.

For now, I’m reading mostly the books I pick. Books I haven’t heard of.

I’ll still read recommendations; I really don’t have a choice because I have hundreds of them on my shelf. But it won’t be the majority.

I’m remembering to trust myself.

Who better to listen to than the person who knows me best.
